A stormy weekend in the Carolinas leads to postponed matches and rough field conditions. A real mixbag of results with several ties, a couple of high scoring matches and some fans getting escorted out in one of the Triangle matches. It is never a dull moment around these parts!

First Flight League

First — Goldsboro Strike Eagles FC (+4)

Goldsboro got off to a slow start against Lazers this past weekend, but in the second half they were a completely different team. The Strike Eagles maintained possession and generated the majority of chances. They thoroughly showed they are ready to make a run for the top spot.

Record: 2–0–1

Next Opponent: vs Atletico Olanchano FC — April 3rd

Second — Bragg FC (+3)

Bragg painted the town blue in the first Fayetteville derby! The club is now undefeated in two matches after a string of postponed matches and are moving their way up the table. The Bragg boys will be heading to Jacksonville next to take on the Marines.

Record: 2–0–0

Next Opponent: @ FC United — April 3rd

Third — Greenville United (-2)

One of the postponed matches due to weather. Greenville moves down based on points. Next up they face Lazers at home as they attempt to get back in the groove.

Record: 2–0–0

Next Opponent: vs Lazers SC — April 3rd

Fourth — Union FC (+3)

The Dragons traveled a long way and came back home with all three points in their cross state match vs FC United. This sounded like it was an entertaining match with seven total goals scored. Keep an eye on Union as they are poised to make a move towards the top of the table.

Record: 2–0–1

Next Opponent: @ Raleigh Warriors FC — April 3rd

Fifth — Greensboro International FC (-3)

Another drop due to weather conditions. Greensboro will turn their eyes back home where they take on the winless Athletico Fayetteville next.

Record: 1–1–0

Next Opponent: vs Athletico Fayetteville SC — April 3rd

Sixth — Wilmington FC (-3)

Wilmington is losing some of that early edge they picked up in the first week. They went down early in the match but were able to level the scoreline in the dying minutes. Playing wilson next will provide them an opportunity to get back on track.

Record: 1–1–1

Next Opponent: vs Wilson Wolves — April 3rd

Seventh — FC United (-1)

The Marines played a very eventful match versus the Dragons but couldn’t get the job done at home. Next week they travel to take on their military rivals from Bragg for their shot at redemption.

Record: 1–0–1

Next Opponent: @ Bragg FC — April 3rd

Eighth — Atletico Olanchano FC (+0)

A slow start for Olanchano this season keeps them on the bottom half of the table. Their two draws tell me that they have the skill to take all three points eventually, but something isn’t clicking. Unfortunately for them they take on the top of the table next week. It’ll be a statement if they can take points off of Goldsboro on the road.

Record: 0–2–1

Next Opponent: @ Goldsboro Strike Eagles FC — April 3rd

Ninth — Raleigh Warriors FC (+0)

Another postponement for the Warriors. This time due to the weather.

Record: 0–0–0

Next Opponent: vs Union FC — April 3rd

Tenth — Lazers SC (+0)

A rough second half for the Lazers found them in the deficit early and then they couldn’t stop the onslaught. Add in an injury from their starting keeper and it was a recipe for disaster. Hopefully Lazers will be able to heal up and patch up their defense before travelling down to Greenville next week.

Record: 0–0–2

Next Opponent: @ Greenville United — April 3rd

Eleventh — Athletico Fayetteville SC (+0)

AFSC gets on the scoresheet this week for the first time this season but it isn’t enough to hold off Bragg in the first Fayetteville derby. The town is currently painted blue, we’ll see if that changes in May.

Record: 0–0–3

Next Opponent: @ Greensboro International FC — April 3rd

Twelfth — Wilson Wolves (+0)

Thunderstorms keep Wilson off the pitch again. Hopefully they’re using these extra weeks for practice for their upcoming match against Wilmington.

Record: 0–0–1

Next Opponent: @ Wilmington FC — April 3rd

UPSL Mid-Atlantic

First — SC Heat (+1)

Okay SC Heat, we see you! Nine goals in two weeks sets a level of play for the rest of the division. We’ll have to see who can keep up. Next week they travel North to Combine Rush for their first NC match.

Record: 2–0–0

Next Opponent: @ Combine Rush — April 3rd

Second — Combine Rush (-1)

Combine travelled up to Durham and went down early against Moros. The team showed a lot of resilience in the second half to level off the scoreline. Next week we get to see the two top teams square off early in the season, so it should be a good one!

Record: 1–1–0

Next Opponent: vs SC Heat — April 3rd

Third — Charleston United SC (+0)

A draw against Sanford isn’t anything to shrug at. Taking points on the road will be helpful at the end of the season when fighting for pole position. Charleston is back at home next week taking on QCFC.

Record: 1–1–0

Next Opponent: vs Queen City FC — April 3rd

Fourth — San Lee FC (+0)

San Lee will be disappointed not to keep all three points at home. A draw keeps them in the top four for the second week, but they’ll be hungry for all three points to stay on pace as they travel next week to Myrtle Beach.

Record: 1–1–0

Next Opponent: @ Myrtle Beach FC — April 3rd

Fifth — Charlotte United (+1)

United will be happy to walk away with all three points on the road and secure their first win in UPSL history. Next week they are at home against the bottom of the table Lobos for another good chance to secure three points.

Record: 1–0–1

Next Opponent: vs Lobos FC — April 3rd

Sixth — Moros FC (+4)

Moros open their Spring campaign in a less than stellar fashion. They played the match at Twin Lakes Park in Durham with really rough conditions between the storm and the poor turf. In Moros fashion, they did go up early in the match, however they weren’t able to hang on and gave up the lead in the second half.

There were also reports of cops escorting fans out of the facility. Not a great scene.

Record: 0–1–0

Next Opponent: @ Soda City FC — April 3rd

Seventh — Soda City FC (-2)

What’s going on down in Columbia? Soda City is off to one of their worst starts to a season. They’ll have to figure out what isn’t clicking fast if they want to compete for a playoff spot.

Record: 0–1–1

Next Opponent: vs Moros FC — April 3rd

Eighth — Queen City FC (+0)

No change for QCFC this week. Drawing Soda City is normally something to write back home about, but this year (so far) it carries little weight. They face up against their toughest opponent so far in Charleston United next week.

Record: 0–1–1

Next Opponent: @ Charleston United — April 3rd

Ninth — Myrtle Beach FC (-2)

Two L’s to start your first campaign isn’t ideal to say the least. Myrtle has another challenge this week with a travelling San Lee side.

Record: 0–0–2

Next Opponent: vs San Lee FC — April 3rd

Tenth — Lobos FC (-1)

Letting seven in on your home opener is an unfortunate sign of things to come unless there is a massive turnaround in the cards for Lobos.

Record: 0–0–1

Next Opponent: @ Charlotte United — April 3rd
