Mebane Power
The only existing soccer that I could find in Mebane is the Mebane Youth Soccer Association in conjunction with the town’s parks and recreation. With not much existing to go off of, I needed to drill into the town’s history and landmarks to find inspiration.
What I landed on was an industrial motif featuring heavy on the screws for Mebane. Like most of the Triad, the town has a history of furniture manufacturing and I attempted to extrapolate from that the idea of drilling and screwing. The team name is a further extension of that, drawing on the idea of power tools. While most of the furniture that the Triad is known for producing, I thought a steel color pallet looked better.
For a home venue the Power could play at the Mebane Soccer Complex. This set of fields are smaller than others we have seen in this series, but it is a dedicated space for the sport and they could always make room by getting rid of those dumb baseball fields. There is another option for the team through Hawfields Middle School. The school already has stands and what looks to be lighting set up on an American football field.
I wasn’t liking how the steel looked with this layout so I shifted it to the dark grey. With a more robust kit design program I’d make more of the details steel. Maybe a thin cuff and collar detail?
Special thanks to Russell Varner for his help editing.
About me
First and foremost I am an amateur with no formal training. My hope is that this series will spark other creatives to make their own versions. Learn more about the series here. I was born and raised in Middlesex, North Carolina and have spent most of my adult life living in Raleigh. I am a fan of the beautiful game who wants to see it grow at the grassroots level.
