Old Well SC
The city of Chapel Hill is synonymous with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The trademark blue colors adorn everything from signage to the bus system. It would be near impossible to create a team in the City without at least a reference to the university.
I used two elements from the university for this logo — the ram and the Old Well, which I ended up also using as the team name. The rams facing each other felt like a family crest, similar to the old-school football logos. I had them tower over the iconic Old Well, the original source of water for the university and now a wright of passage for all students to drink from.
UNC has a fabulous newly remodeled stadium for soccer and lacrosse. This stadium is another example of how colleges in North Carolina can venues for club soccer that they just can’t get anywhere else. Fun fact about the left wall: the padding shown in this mock-up is painted brick in reality. They did a really good job with it and I have enjoyed the few games I’ve been to at this stadium.
Part of Chapel Hill’s ascetic is a sense of upper-scale snobbery that the students and students that decided to never leave have (didn’t think I was going to let a whole article go without taking a dig at UNC did you?). As such I thought that an understated kit with the university’s classic argyle pattern would do the trick.
