Danish Countryside

With a camera, patience and the goal of finding the interesting photographs that enclose the Danish countryside.

We start in the northern part of Denmark and slowly move around the natural and cultural landscape until we have identified the uniqueness of the Danish landscape. The project is not about the beautiful beaches when the sun shines from a clear blue sky. It is about finding nature and capturing images when the dark clouds and rain are approaching from the west. Or when the winds from the east send cold winds and frost across the land and turn the landscape into a cold and desolate place where wool and stubbornness are the only cure. For example, we will find the soul at Thorupstrand where old fishermen risked their lives on the sea to earn their daily pay. We will capture the energy and atmosphere that prevails in nature and the dramatic landscape.

To reflect the nature as natural as possible it is not about the camera, lenses and other equipment, but about the moment and honesty in the photograph. Our philosophy is that the simplest is the most beautiful and strongest image. The photographer’s role is the same as an artist’s — think about how talented painters use the beautiful light to get the most subtle details and tones onto the canvas. How they used the landscapes, lines and curves to create unique compositions. We will do that! Find the light, the lines, the texture and details that make the photograph exciting and interesting.

Just as a painting can take a long time to complete, so does a photograph. It takes time to find the right motive, waiting until the light is just right, then take the picture. Next, the image must be edited and each photograph must be carefully treated to adjust contrast and tones to make it a precise capture of the mood and atmosphere that existed when the photograph was taken.

Just as we work with the camera, our print needs a simple and honest representation. This is done by using paper that reproduces colors and tones in a genuine and sustainable manner. The ink must be able to keep the tone for over 100 years so you are guaranteed something that’s not only beautiful, but also something that will last.
