A Course in Miracles- When fear is greater than God
I remember having a conversation with one of my personal training clients years ago about the missing links in prayer. Her father, a minster who’d just passed on, had left his ministry to her and she was worried that the parishioners would not accept her.
In fact…they could not say anything nice about her at all.
She told me one day during a workout that she kept praying and giving it up to God but things were only getting worse.
So I asked:
Are you REALLY giving it up to God or are you taking it back every time you worry or doubt that it’s not happening in YOUR time?
Praying to God, giving your problems to Him/Her, then worrying about it not happening is like saying…
Hey, I know you’re the one who’s going to have the answers and I’m going to go through the motions here, but really…I don’t trust you to handle it the way I think it should be handled!
I saw the light bulb go on in her head. 💡
“All fear is ultimately reducible to the basic misinterpretation that you have the ability to usurp the power of God.” -A Course in Miracles
At that time, I had no clue why those words left my lips. I had never given a second thought to that concept nor had I read it in a book somewhere. It was as though God spoke through me to her…and apparently I too needed that message.
See, fear according to ACIM is non-truth.
It’s a symptom of the separation we had with Source. When we are not whole and complete, we see only lack and scarcity.
It’s mainly because we see with our physical eyes not our soul’s eyes.
We buy into fantasies and entertain scenario after scenario of all that can possibly go wrong which distorts our interpretation of true reality…furthering the separation between us and Source.
“Your distorted perceptions produce a dense cover over miracle impulses, making it hard for them to reach your own awareness.” -ACIM
The more you give…or should I say invest…your attention to doubt and worry, the more you block your potential to give and receive miracles for the greater good. You’re calibrating your physical beingness through the mind to energetically attract more chaos and suffering.
Where my client was feeling a backlash from parishioners, she was also creating it by disconnecting from God in her worry and doubt…as well as feelings of unworthiness that she would not live up to her father’s work.
A Course in Miracles tells us that there IS a way out of this broken record pattern:
“The escape is brought about by your acceptance of the Atonement, which enables you to realize that your errors never really occurred.”
It’s in our dream state of fear that forget this physical world is only an illusion, and yet, when we awaken we remember we have and are all we need. Hence, we no longer need to be affected…or afflicted…by the illusions and attachments of this world.
It’s the fear that keeps us thinking we need more resources when the surrender shows us how to be resourceful with what we have. This opportunity is gifted to us as a chance to choose into divine service or choose into illusion.
Remember:
“You do not have to continue to believe what is not true unless you choose to do so.”- ACIM
Meaning, once you know that when God is present, and fear subsides, you will have an opportunity to make that greater choice.
And, we’re human. We don’t always get it right.
The key really is to choose into this daily such that we train our brains to see only God where illusion once resided.
