Sorority Works to Make Difference in their Community
An article was released by TheChattanoogan.com about a sorority working to help make a better Halloween for the members of their community. This sorority was the Theta Phi chapter of Sigma Kappa at UTC. One of Sigma Kappa’s core values is service, and they do a lot to portray this. On October 31st, 2012, the woman of Sigma Kappa participated in Chattanoogan’s trick-or-treat event at the preschool. THey helped hand out candy and interacted with the kids. Along with this, earlier in October these women had their annual philanthropy week. During this week, they had an Ultra Violet Campaign where they raised over $5,600 that went to Alzheimer’s Disease/Gerontology. To raise this money, Sigma Kappa held a softball tournament and a “Dove in Disguise” male beauty pageant. Kappa Sigma also held a Memory walk for Alzheimer’s Disease earlier in the semester and raised $1200. This article shows that being in a sorority is not only very beneficial to one’s self, but also to the community they live in.
