Which type are you?

Hustle type — tend to do everything fast, fast, fast.

Slow type — possess laid back spirit, and oh slow living FTW.

As someone who is typically on the Team Hustle side, today I learned the importance of rest. Well, a bit of back story here — today, out of nowhere, the trackpad of my Macbook Pro suddenly stopped working. After few hours chanelling my inner tech support, I had to admit my defeat and eventually wento to an actual tech support and bought myself a new trackpad. This one tiny glitch affected my plan for the whole day because I couldn’t get my job done. When the job is delayed that means another job is also delayed, and the circle continues. How frustrating that is! One silly glitch ruined everything.

I can’t just say, “Oh well, that means I’d just rest. Can’t work anyway.” Ha ha. Wish it was that simple. But turns out, it WAS that simple. After some another roller coaster episodes with the oh-not-the-loveliest tech people, which I had know idea since I just moved to Bali, here’s what I found :

We don’t have any control over anything but our response. You can be STRESSED in the RACE, or REST in GRACE.

Rest to stop and listen. Rest to reconnect, to recalibrate in the whirlwind of facts and fears. Especially from other people’s fears as well. If we rest but don’t reconnect ourselves to the One True source of Power, we can’t response correctly to the situation.

Rest to look up and see the bigger picture. Rest to stay immovable, unaffected by the circumstances. Rest to understand that it’s a constant choice we have to make day-by-day, even when things are okay. Rest is a gift. It is not exclusive but for everyone. Staying restful is something we can access 24/7 when we are “plugged-in” to the Power Source.

Let us guard our hearts at all times. Know when to stop and to step ahead. It is all about the balance and sense of peace that comes from above. So yes, that’s what happened. In the end, I still couldn’t get my work done but turns out there’s another work, done for me.

“The Lord replied, “I will personally go with you, Moses, and I will give you rest — everything will be fine for you.” — Exodus 33:14 (NLT)

“Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.” — Philippians 4:6–7 (MSG)

“You will keep in perfect peace
all who trust in you,
all whose thoughts are fixed on you!” — Isaiah 26:3 (NLT)
