The Ambition of Derian Baugh: Personalized Style for the Everyman
Derian Baugh is the Founder and CEO of Men’s Style Lab, an online concierge clothing service for men with a twist. Through MSL, you connect with a personal stylist who designs a customized wardrobe for you based on your lifestyle and personal preferences. Then, they send you five stylist-selected items with your choice of every 30, 60, or 90 days. You get five days to try on the selections, choose what you love, and send back the rest. You only pay for what you keep, and shipping is free both ways.
Nicknamed “The Style CEO”, Derian Baugh has spent over a decade in retail sales as an assistant manager at Finish Line, a retail store manager at Fossil, and eventually as a district sales manager at U.S. Cellular. There, he oversaw 150 associates spanning 26 locations. At this point, he’s also already dabbled with entrepreneurship, namely founding and being executive director of the Des Moines Dream Center, an inner-city non-profit dedicated to helping under-privileged children and families. Eventually, his personal need for some sort of service that could keep his friends and him looking stylish with minimal time and effort led him to leaving the corporate lifestyle and starting Men’s Style Lab in 2014.
Since launching MSL, Derian has raised about $3 million from angel investors. Men’s Style Lab started in Des Moines, Iowa and plans to stay there. Des Moines is where Derian went to college, started his nonprofit, and recruited many of his team for MSL. Although centered in Des Moines, Men’s Style Lab still serves the 48 contiguous United States with customers in each of those states, primarily California, New York, and Texas.
