Singapore is a country equipped the most modern transportation network in the world which meet the traveling and commuting demand of any tourist. Buses and subways are considered as two popular means of transportation. While the subway usually returns passengers in big towns, the bus is a mean helping you explore every corner of Singapore’s street. If you are preparing for an adventure to this wonderful island, you can refer to the following guide on how to use bus, MRT or other means of vehicles while traveling to Singapore.

Subway system MRT

Perhaps the subway system (MRT) is the fastest mean of transportation in Singapore. With the extensive railway system, it means that most of Singapore’s main destinations are possible to walk.

You can buy a separate ticket for each trip, but if you plan to use the MRT and buses multiple times during your tour, you should buy a Singapore Tourist Pass (STP), a special EZ-Link card which is already recharged money allowing you to use unlimited for one day (S $ 10), two days (S $ 16) or three days (S $ 20).

You can buy the card at the TransitLink ticket office at the following MRT stations: Orchard, City Hall, Raffles Place, Bayfront, Tanjong Pagar, HarbourFront, Chinatown, Farrer Park, Changi Airport, Bugis, Lavender, Jurong East, Kranji, Woodlands, Ang Mo Kio — or at the Concession Card Replacement Office at Somerset MRT station. The card is also available at some automatic STP Kiosks at Changi Airport MRT Station (Terminals 2 and 3) near the Transitlink ticket office.

Wheelchair users and the blind, as well as families with baby strollers, can easily travel by subway in Singapore.

Taxi

Taking a taxi is super comfortable and especially convenient if you plan to arrive at places where the bus or MRT cannot reach. Taxis here are charged by kilometer, but there may be an extra charge depending on time, location and the taxi brand you take. To estimate how much you have to pay, ask the driver about an additional fee and ask for an invoice at the end of the journey. You can hail a taxi at most of the street, or by queuing in the taxi areas available at most shopping malls, hotels, and attractions. If you want to call a taxi, you can make a call to 6-DIAL CAB (6342–5222), you will be connected to a taxi company

Bus

Singapore’s bus system has a wide network of bus routes to most locations on the island. It is not only the most economical way to travel but also an opportunity to see many wonderful views.

You can pay your bus fare using the pre-loaded EZ-Link card, or the Singapore Tourist Pass (STP). All you need to do is just simply tap this card into the card reader next to the driver when boarding. Remember to touch the card reader again near the door, before you get off. You can also pay cash, but must be an exact change.

Most buses in Singapore are air-conditioned — well-received equipment by residents in a tropical city.

That’s the total guide to get familiar with Singapore’s transportation system even if you are a blinder in transportation. We hope our article becomes your handbook when travel to Singapore.
