Ahmadiyya Muslim Caucus launched for the 115th Congress
On February 17, 2017, over 100 members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community across the United States gathered in Washington, D.C. to meet with Members of Congress. The Seattle Chapter of the Community sent two representatives to meet with the offices of Rep Rick Larsen (WA-02), Rep Derek Kilmer (WA-06), Rep Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), Rep Dave Reichert (WA-08), and Rep Adam Smith (WA-09).
One key objective of our visit to Members of Congress is to encourage them to sign on to the Ahmadiyya Muslim Caucus. US Representative Jackie Speier issued a press release stating, “The Congressional Ahmadiyya Muslim Caucus was formed in 2014 to highlight the religious and human rights abuses regularly suffered by the members of the Ahmadi community across the world. Today, the Caucus continues to press onward toward the ultimate goal of societal and religious freedom for this oppressed community. We represent a bipartisan effort to advocate on behalf of oppressed Ahmadi Muslims consistent with the objectives of the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998.”
We gave an introduction to the Community and the work being done in Washington State. We also gave an introduction to the True Islam campaign and asked each Member of Congress to sign onto supporting this grassroots campaign to stop the misrepresentation of Islam by extremists.
