A Visit to Lowenburg

On Saturday we drove to Kassel to go to visit the Lowenburg Castle. This is a more modern castle, that is built to look like a Mideval knight’s castle. It is on the grounds of a park called the Wilhelmshöhe, which also includes the Hurcules monument and water fountain, as well as a more modern castle.

This is a beautiful site to walk through, with a large park area, and a walk through the trees to get up to the castle on the hill. When you arrive at the parking area, there is an 18 minute walk up to the castle, which is quite pleasant.

We had a beautiful walk through the forest, and enjoyed our time in the park. It was a great way for us to spend the day, learning something about history and being out in the natural beauty.

According to Heritage-Kassel,

It looks like a medieval ruin, but it isn’t: Landgrave Wilhelm IX had the Löwenburg built. built from 1793 to 1801 in the Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe based on the model of a dilapidated knight’s castle.
