American Haiku

Slow joke told. Bad crowd.
Mic in hand, silence off stage.
Where’s my tag gone to?

That awful feeling when your doing stand up. You tell a joke, get nothing but silence, and can’t go into your tag (follow up joke) because nobody laughed at the opener. What to do? Throw out a self-deprecating one-liner? Punch back and clown the audience? Or move on to your next joke/bit and hope it lands? Always a horrible feeling.
