At the end, which will prove more lasting?

In my solitary confinement — the one we all share, I am struck that the one symbol that seems to bring the most peace is the rainbow. It is something most people, especially children, see as cheerful as a sign of hope — of something better as the rain falls.

There is what I would call a collective on Facebook of people that began in the 518 area code of people creating rainbows for the children to see when they were able to walk or be driven through their neighborhood. As of yesterday, it reached 100,000 members, which includes people outside the area code and from all over the country and the world.

I have to believe the rainbow will win out, as it always has before.
