Moonlight Etching

Author’s Note:
Etching is an intaglio printmaking process in which lines or areas are incised using acid into a metal plate in order to hold the ink.Using a blunt stylus called an etching needle, the printmaker gently scratches away parts of the ground following the design, thereby exposing the metal beneath.Lewis Martin, an Australian born American etching artist, who kept his mark in this art form in a way inimitable, died in oblivion.
Nearly 50 years after his death, Lewis’s print, Shadow Dance( given below) fetched a whooping $50,400 at an auction, setting a record price for an artist.
There is some reference to believe, his friend and protege, the better know Edward Hopper, took up the mantle right from him, only to strip him off his deserving credit, and the former was re-discovered 50 years after in death in 1962.That’s history we read and are no one to judge. But when you dig into information so interesting with frames that speak to you, you know what to do right.
In this age of instant gratification, where independent artists and creatives have in-numberable avenues to get noticed, you have to take a pause for brilliant minds who never found their rightful place when breathing, and look at their life and work with reverence, they so deserve. As I took a look at the image provided above, I found myself in that street, with those kids, dribbling with that moonlight, two centuries ago.
Time travelling ?! if you say so.Info source: moonlight-etchings-of-the-forgotten-artist-who-taught-edward-hopper/Wiki
