*Opacarophile: A person who loves the sunset

Author’s Note: “It’s almost impossible to watch a sunset and not dream.”– Bern Williams.
Looking for Sunset Paintings is leading me to things really interesting. Few of most famous sunset paintings from centuries are credited to Caspar_David_Friedrich (1774–1840) and going through his work gave me a new dimension to nature painting where the artist often included human presence in diminished perspective amid expansive landscape and gave his canvas a viewers gaze towards metaphysical dimension.

Frederich came at a time when across Europe, a growing disillusionment with materialistic society was giving rise to a new appreciation for spirituality, where nature was depicted as a ‘divine creation to be set against the artifice of human civilization’. His work brought him early renown as contemporary French Sculptor David d’Angers spoke of him as the man who discovered “the tragedy of the landscape”.
Unfortunately, his work fell in his later years and he died in obscurity. But by early 20th Century his work came to fore and discovered as expressionist, surrealist and existentialist, the concepts the then ruling Art world adhered to.But it was not before 1970, that Frederich gained his reputation as an icon of German Romantic Movement and a painter of International importance.

Thank you Pierre Trudel Jenny Justice Tapan Avasthi Heidi Franklin and American Haiku for publishing my poem.
