Her body was here
but her mind was far away,
she was so withdrawn.

She rode an hour to me
all across the sf bay,
at the stroke of dawn.

Her red tousled hair
hid her deeply troubled mind,
her pain hit my brawn.

Our love was so new
I assumed the fault was mine,
as I hung my crown.

Decades of self-doubts
jumped up eager to assail,
before I could warn.

So many battles
fought deep within my own head,
face trapped in a frown.

Then the light of love
cut through all my misery,
to happiness spawn.

As I truly felt,
her love for me flow out raw,
running down my spine.
