When You Say No

I Say Black

--

poem on racism, painting of black tribal woman
Painting by Monoreena

If you will call her dark —
I will call her sunshine.

Look into her sensitive soul
Which cries the silent sobs,
Think what’s behind that
A sad smile, when she is braving
the world.

Look into her longing eyes
Telling tales untold,
Beauty lies with the beholder
I am being told.

I will live with this dark every time
And let my life glow,
‘Cos white fairs better when
BLACK lets it go.

Thank you Pierre Trudel Jenny Justice Tapan Avasthi Heidi Franklin and American Haiku for providing my words a safe home.

Thank you to everyone who takes note.
