The current Ebola outbreak in West Africa is considered one of the worst in recent memory killing over 650 since the beginning of the year. There is no known cure for the ebola virus. According to emedtv.com, the Ebola virus originated in the Democratic Republic of Congo and got its name from a river located there, in Africa.

The origination of the virus is unknown, but some say that it was transmitted to humans from animals germane to Africa. An outbreak occurs when a human is in contact with an infected animal. The Ebola virus is not known to originate on any other continent except Africa. No Ebola virus has been reported in the United States according to emedtv.com.

So Why Do We Care?

First, Ebola is no joke of a virus. It is one of the most contagious viruses around…ranking up there with HIV and smallpox.

Second, it is a hemorrhagic virus which means you bleed from your eyes, nose, ears and mouth. That is one bad way to go. Not to mention it has a 90% fatality rate.

Third, this is the largest outbreak in recorded history. Read that again. And, it just migrated to Nigeria’s largest city, Lagos.

Fourth, two American aid workers are now infected according to reports by basically every news agency reporting on the matter.
