Attorney General Daniel Cameron spent the week trying to explain away how he could directly solicit donations from a company that his office was investigating. It was only after Cameron got caught in what appears to be a potential pay-to-play scheme through an open records request that he returned the money and recused himself from the case. But Cameron refused to admit fault, even having his office play cover-up by saying that the attorney general was “free to solicit campaign contributions from constituents.”

Front runner Jeff Landry is skipping candidate forums and debates as he believes he has wrapped up his race for governor almost four months before the jungle primary election. However, a Super PAC backing his top GOP opponent, Stephen Waguespack, released a poll showing Waguespack closing the gap. When he wasn’t skipping campaign events, Landry was failing at his job as attorney general; his lawsuit defending Louisiana’s racially gerrymandered map was dismissed by the Supreme Court.

Governor Tate Reeves argued it would be better to eliminate the state income tax over the grocery tax — a move that would greatly benefit his mega-donors and not everyday Mississippians. And once again Mississippians are reading about one of the many scandals their governor has been caught up in: Reeves is collecting interest on a scandalous donation he previously promised to return to taxpayers or charity but has refused to do so.
