American Bridge 21st Century Weekly Recap: July 21, 2023

Our top moments of the week

--

GOP lies busted this week:

❌ Tim Sheehy being a rancher

❌ Daniel Cameron showing up to work

❌ Tate Reeves opposing loan forgiveness

Here are our biggest moments of the week:

1. Tim Sheehy: “All Cattle, No Tax”

On Tuesday, The Daily Beast reported that Montana GOP Senate candidate Tim Sheehy, who is campaigning as a rancher, has “failed to meet a bare minimum standard for every Montana rancher and farmer — one that is crucial to supporting the state’s agriculture and conservation programs.”

The report found that Sheehy has skipped out on required fees for four years, and “the non-payments have saved Sheehy’s ranch — at least until The Daily Beast raised the issue — from a tax bill likely totaling tens of thousands of dollars.”

“Recently, the liberal group American Bridge filed an open records request with the Department of Revenue, asking how many animals Sheehy’s ranch reported to the government since they purchased the property in 2019…A department official replied that Sheehy, his business partners, and Little Belt Cattle Company had never reported any livestock with the government, according to a copy of the email shared with The Daily Beast.”

2. Does Daniel Cameron Go to Work?

A new report from HuffPost details how Kentucky GOP gubernatorial nominee and attorney general Daniel Cameron, who receives a taxpayer-funded salary and benefits, and who has campaigned on adding a work requirement for those Kentuckians receiving Medicaid, may not be showing up for work.

“There is no record of Kentucky’s Republican attorney general, Daniel Cameron, using his key fob or any other kind of security card to get into the state Capitol building for the last three years, and his office is repeatedly refusing to say why.”

3. This F*cking Guy: Trump Attacks War Heroes

Eight years ago this week, Donald Trump made an unthinkable attack on our nation’s veterans and armed service members — stating that Senator John McCain was “not a war hero” and that he “like people that weren’t captured.”

During the Vietnam War, Senator McCain was shot down, seriously injured, and tortured. Meanwhile, Trump infamously avoided being drafted into serving during the war by faking an injury.

Marking this anniversary, American Bridge spokesperson Monica Venzke released the following statement:

“We can’t forget how horrific Donald Trump was and is to our nation’s heroes. His disgusting comments about John McCain’s service were only the beginning of his many attacks on our nation’s active military and veterans. If given another four years in the White House, I can’t imagine the horrors that would come out of his mouth.”

4. Tate Reeves Had Loans Forgiven, Opposes Student Loan Forgiveness

A new report from the Clarion Ledger details how Mississippi GOP Governor Tate Reeves, who has been mired in scandal, has had hundreds of thousands of dollars in PPP loans forgiven despite railing against the Biden administration’s student loan forgiveness program.

“Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves long voiced opposition to President Joe Biden’s now-defeated plan to forgive $10,000 in student loan debts for most federal borrowers. Meanwhile, businesses with close ties to the first-term Republican have had more than half a million dollars in federal loans forgiven in recent years.”

5. No Labels Wants To Be Spoiler Candidate “Bargaining Chip” in 2024

This week, American Bridge 21st Century President Pat Dennis revealed on the New Hampshire Today radio show that the Republican-funded organization No Labels is strategizing to use electoral votes as a “bargaining chip” with the major party nominees.

This previously-unreported clip comes on the heels of No Labels’ Monday Common Sense town hall where the organization refused to be forthright with their plans about re-electing Donald Trump.

“…you know, their chief strategist has actually said…we can use electoral votes as bargaining chips, which is something I don’t think he maybe meant to say out loud.”
