My Pet Hooligan takes center stage at the 3XP Esports Arena

AMGI Studios took center stage at the 3XP Web3 Gaming Expo, held on June 8–9, 2023, at Los Angeles County’s Pasadena Convention Center. The team demoed the new build of My Pet Hooligan (MPH) in a live competitive setting, hosted a booth, and shared the MPH vision alongside other upcoming web3 titles. Organized by Game7, the 3XP Web3 Gaming Expo is an annual event that brings together gamers, developers, investors and enthusiasts to explore the latest technologies and gaming trends in web3.

The Esports Arena, a section of the Expo dedicated to competitive play, offered an expansive 60,000 square feet of space that featured a 5v5 gaming setup on stage, with shoutcasters providing live commentary. Another part of the arena was a community area with 20 gaming PCs for walk-up playtests, providing an opportunity for visitors to try out some of the most highly anticipated web3 games firsthand.

3XP brought My Pet Hooligan to the Esports Arena on its opening day, inviting streamers and content creators to compete in exhibition matches that were streamed on the front page of Twitch to international viewers.

My Pet Hooligan Dominates the Esports Arena

The tournament format for My Pet Hooligan consisted of two rounds of 15-minute sessions in the newly released alpha version 1.5. Players had to secure the highest number of eliminations in My Pet Hooligan’s free-for-all game mode to be crowned the winner. The free-for-all game mode offered the ability to earn points for purchasing clothing and accessories, as well as power-ups and destructible environments. AMGI Chief Creative Officer Colin Brady and one of the OG content creators in web3 gaming, CryptoStache, provided commentary throughout the matches, highlighting new skateboard mechanics, maps, and community-made in-game music.

Prominent esports players such as Yassuo from 100 Thieves, BOBQIN from Team Liquid, Mang0 and Meteos from Cloud9, and Taki from Nouns Esports participated in the tournament alongside notable web3 content creators, including Brycent, Orangie, ClassyCrypto, Spike, CryptoStache, Yellow Panther, and Alliestrasza repping custom My Pet Hooligan-branded jerseys. Orangie emerged as the first-place winner, securing the highest number of eliminations across both rounds.

The AMGI team highly values feedback, especially from players who are deeply immersed in the competitive gaming scene and the budding web3 content creator network. Various esports players and content creators had the opportunity to share their first thoughts about MPH, including renowned professional Valorant player, Drake “Exalt” Branly, who previously competed for Disguised (DSG).

Drake expressed his enthusiasm for MPH, describing it as an enjoyable experience. “I got to play My Pet Hooligan, which I thought was really fun,” Drake said in an interview with CryptoStache. “Some of the guns are really fun to just jump around and shoot people [with]. I’m like a little bunny running around in my underwear and socks — I thought that was a really cool concept.”

Brycent, the pioneering web3 gaming content creator who rose to fame in 2021 and has since been signed to Gary Vaynerchuk’s talent management firm, VaynerSports, and the professional esports organization and gaming lifestyle brand, XSET, also spoke about how the game’s destructible and memeable elements make it more fun to play. “The [proximity] chat, the ability to destroy things — and even that time during the demos, [with the ZuckBots] and being able to just destroy them, was a lot of fun. I think [AMGI has] created an experience that people want to be a part of consistently, and now it’s just more game time, baby. It’s more getting the message out there, getting the word out there, and jumping in and being a real Hooligan.”

A Peek Behind the Curtain of AMGI Studios

Decrypt’s Kate Irwin visits AMGI Studios

Prior to the tournament, Colin was interviewed by the host, Wrecks, at the Esports Arena. The interview covered topics such as Colin’s background, the vision behind MPH, the integration of AI chatbots to enhance the game, and AMGI’s approach to creating a social arena.

Since 3XP was held in AMGI’s hometown of Hollywood, it was an opportune time to throw open the doors and invite a host of friends to visit the studio and see where the magic happens. One such guest was Kate Irwin, Creative Producer of GG by Decrypt and the Gaming Lead Reporter at Decrypt, who was treated to a behind-the-scenes tour of the studio. Kate recorded an interview with Colin and AMGI Studios co-founder Tony Diioia, for an upcoming story and got to watch Eric Prochnau acting out Hooli live on the motion capture stage. She also caught a glimpse of the latest developments on the feature film being spearheaded by Kevin Johnson, AMGI’s Head of Development, who collaborated closely with Colin in the past and brings a wealth of experience from Hollywood, with film credits including “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” (2001), “Iron Giant” (1999), and “Dog Gone Trouble” (2021).

In addition to Kate Irwin, core team members of the web3 gaming guild Yield Guild Games (YGG), Jen Yu, Head of Product Design, and Angel Pui, Global Head of Growth, visited the studio. As an early partner of AMGI, YGG has been working very closely with the studio on a number of potential initiatives to provide support in the lead-up to the game’s launch.

Among others touring the studio were Ilya Abugov, co-founder of the investment firm Sanctor Capital, which operates a US$30 million web3 gaming fund, and the CyberCode Twins, a pair of highly skilled web3 developers who have received various awards in tech competitions and hackathons, such as the NASA International SpaceApps Challenge, IBM Global Innovators Challenge and Intel’s US-China Maker Competition. The studio guests got to see firsthand the hard work that the whole AMGI team puts into each new release of MPH to ensure it is a fully tested, fun-filled, adventure-packed game ready for the community.

“It was incredibly rewarding to witness our game being enjoyed by these streamers and competitive players at 3XP,” said Colin. “Not only do they entertain millions, but they also serve as ambassadors for the gaming community. Seeing their enthusiasm and engagement with our game validates all the hard work and dedication that goes into creating My Pet Hooligan. We are grateful for their support and look forward to continuing to deliver an enjoyable and immersive gaming experience for all as we prepare to launch on the Epic Games Store to bring alpha version 1.5 to the Karrot Gang.”
