Donor Spotlight: The Peter & Catherine Clark Family Foundation

(L to R) Graham, Peter, Cathy and Michael Clark enjoying family time together!

When the Refugee Crisis began to unfold in Syria and thousands of families sought out safety and freedom in Canada, Peter and Catherine Clark, and their two sons, Graham and Michael, felt compelled to help out in the best way they knew how…with the gift of camp!

Since 2017, the Clarks have been making a tremendous difference in the lives of new Canadian children. In partnership with Amici and Camp Wenonah, the Clark family has been supporting new Canadian children with the gift of camp. What started as five campers in 2017, has grown to over 20 campers today, attending Camp Wenonah summer after summer, for truly life changing and powerful experiences.

As a Wenonah family themselves, the Clarks know this group of Amici campers are not only having the time of their lives while up at camp, but they are learning valuable and critical life skills, not often provided to them elsewhere.

“Our family shares a deep belief in the benefits of a camp experience for all kids,” says Peter. “Camp has been proven, we believe, to promote confidence, self esteem and independence in youth, as we have seen through our two sons. It is something which should not be denied for financial reasons. We believe it is very important to make this opportunity available to new Canadians to make them feel welcome and to help show them some of what makes Canada special.”

Despite camp not being open last summer due to COVID-19, these campers were still able to bring the magic of camp home, thanks to generous support from the Clark family. And now, they are more ready than ever to get back to skill development, leadership opportunities and a whole lot of fun on the shores of Clear Lake in 2021.
