Volunteer Spotlight: Amici’s Young Professionals’ Council

The YPC before their Campchella event in October 2019

There are few better showings of the phrase better together than Amici’s Young Professionals’ Council (YPC). The YPC is a team of 12 young professionals with a passion for the power of camp. These camp enthusiasts work together to foster a community of camp-minded individuals in Toronto while raising awareness about Amici.

The YPC is led by two true camp champions, Geordie Knowles and Martine Lloyd. Geordie and Martine both believe deeply in the magic of camp, the outdoors and bringing people together.

“The best part of working with the YPC is the opportunity to bring together an amazing group of young professionals who are passionate about the work that Amici does,” says Martine Lloyd. “The YPC is such a vibrant group of people.”

Over the past few years, the YPC has planned several sold out and highly successful Evening Program events, including Camp Jams, Campchella, Game Night and even a virtual Canoe Heads for Kids After Party in 2021!

Planning these events is no small feat. The YPC works with nearly no budget, going into each event with the goal of spreading the word about Amici’s mission. It is thanks to Geordie and Martine’s leadership, and the dedication, creativity and campy enthusiasm of the entire YPC team, that each of their events have been a resounding success.

“Working with the YPC is easy,” says Martine. “There is a common thread throughout the whole team of a passion for camp, and a passion for giving the gift of camp to children who otherwise wouldn’t have that opportunity.”

“YPC events really feel like I’m back at camp and reliving some of my favourite memories,” says Geordie. “With the added benefit of knowing that we are helping support Amici campers in making memories of their own.”

The YPC is gearing up for the return of in-person events, beginning with the Canoe Heads for Kids 2022 After Party, which, with this team at the helm, is sure to be a can’t-miss event!

Thank you, thank you, thank you to Geordie and Martine and the entire YPC for your steadfast commitment to Amici and giving back to your community. Each of you embodies all of the traits of a great camper: compassionate, enthusiastic, and most importantly, great teammates proving we are better together!
