How to turn your idea into an App
“I have an idea, can you build me an app?”
This statement is by far the “most heard” phrase software developers like us hear on a daily! People across the world have tons of ideas running through their minds. Innovative ideas, crazy ideas, foolish ideas and wannabe ideas, everyone is eager to build the next big app following the footsteps of Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. It’s great to have ideas and two people can have similar ideas but execution is what makes the difference. We thought we will share some few tips on things you should do when you have an idea. Let’s get right into it shall we?
First Tip
Write it down: Go old school, grab a paper and pen it down! Don’t use your phone you might get distracted. You surely don’t want to lose those precious thoughts bubbling in your mind at that moment, do you? If the idea excites you that much, draft it on a paper, draw and record everything as it comes to you. You will be able to lay down your ideas in a much better way over time.
Second Tip
Research: You don’t need to hire a historian, Google’s got you! Ask yourself these questions:
- What’s the most important thing my idea does?
- Is it a vitamin (enhancer) or a pill (pain killer)?
- What problem is it solving or what is is making better?
Understand your idea using facts and figures. Find out if there are similar apps out there already implementing your idea. Make good use of the information around you to give your idea some value and substance.
Third Tip
Break down your idea into features. Categorize the parts of your idea that are prominent and stand out per their usefulness. Put yourself in the shoes of a typical user who will benefit from your idea and imagine how they will apply your idea. All the different features must compliment each other but come together as a total kick-ass package.
Fourth Tip
Cost It: You need to know how much time and money you can invest into the idea. You can begin by answering questions like these:
- How much are you willing to spend on this idea?
- Is the idea for profit or not?
- How much do you intend on making?
- Can you sustain the cost and maintenance of your idea over a period of time?
Draw up a budget and give a timeline for execution, get quotes and be confident in your idea. You got this!
