I write to you today with momentous news. After nearly a decade of collaborating to build a vibrant, global movement of young health equity leaders as CEO of Global Health Corps, I am transitioning into the role of GHC Board Chair. This decision was neither easy nor simple, but carries tremendous meaning for me. To be able to step away from something we’ve worked so hard to build means…that we did it! Or rather that we’re doing it and that we’ll keep it up.
I know in my core that great ideas don’t change the world, great people do. Over the past nine years I have seen how great leadership can transform health systems so that they deliver quality care for all. That’s what we’ve been building over the last decade: a movement of young leaders who are working across borders and boundaries to build equitable health systems now and for their entire careers.
As twentysomethings, my co-founders and I dreamed big but never guessed how real and inspiring our dream would become. We worked incredibly hard and fiercely believed in our mission. We also had (have!) a blast. And every year our movement has grown! Applications are now open for our tenth class of fellows, which tips our global community of fellows and alumni past the 1,000-strong milestone.
This is why I know that I can step aside, and I am filled with excitement and hope as I do so. Over the past year, we undertook an exhaustive global search for GHC’s next leader. Our team envisioned a creative, empathetic, globally-minded visionary. We envisioned someone who could lead with love to bring our movement of changemakers into the next era. We envisioned someone with the expertise to sustain growing global operations and deepen our impact.
I am beyond thrilled to announce Daniela Terminel as the new CEO of Global Health Corps. Her first day in our New York office is January 16. Daniela pairs extensive global strategic and operational expertise with a strong commitment to the principle that leadership can change the world. For more than 15 years, she has collaborated with diverse players across sectors and industries to deliver transformational impact. She is everything we envisioned for our next leader and more. I adore her and it has been a joy and an honor to get to know her. We will be working in lock step over the next several months of transition. With that, I want turn it over to our new leader to share some words.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you to every single one of you who played any part, big or small, in building our movement over the last nine years. Let’s keep going! The world needs moral leadership and advocates for equity now more than ever.
With GHC love always,
Thank you so much for those beautiful words, Barbara, and hello to everyone near and far!
The new year for me has brought the start of a new journey — one that I am honored and excited to begin. As the new CEO of Global Health Corps, I am humbled by the opportunity to serve and to lead such a passionate and high potential movement of young leaders.
I have dedicated my career to amplifying the impact of entrepreneurs all over the world who are transforming systems and ecosystems from within. It’s astounding to watch innovation-in-practice and know that change for the better, driven by a few, is possible — and is happening. It’s for this reason that I have admired the GHC movement for quite some time. I have been deeply impressed by the ambition and capabilities of the young leaders driving it and overwhelmed by the spirit of this movement. And I am so ready to serve, and to lead.
I cannot wait to get started! As Barbara said, the world needs highly effective, collaborative, and empathetic leadership now so badly. We at Global Health Corps are up to the task. We have a strong foundation beneath us and nothing but blue sky above. I hope you’ll stay with us on this journey and thank you for all that you do to support our movement.
Until next time & with GHC love,
