AMPLYFI’s experience at Taiwan’s largest FinTech event
The FinTech Taipei exhibition is Taiwan’s largest FinTech event, with 2019’s event attracting over 30,000 attendees. Held on the 29th-30th November, it saw AMPLYFI alongside over 230 exhibitors from 11 different countries showcasing the latest advancements in financial technology. Held at the Taipei World Trade Center, attendees enjoyed a variety of FinTech-related attractions from keynote speeches to demo shows and even a stand featuring robots making noodles (shown above).
The event also saw Taiwan’s president Tsai Ing-Wen [蔡英文] attending, pictured above with AMPLYFI and other members of the UK Pavilion team. She announced intentions to make Taiwan an ‘Asian centre for asset management, businesses and wealth management’ through increased state support for the development of FinTech. These aspirations are already in effect, with Taiwan’s achievement of last year becoming the first country to set up a system of “sandbox” regulatory tray, through which finance startups are enabled to test new products and services faster. This reflects the Republic’s plans to create a unique ecosystem for FinTech growth and investment, centered in Taipei.
The event marks a prominent time in Taiwan’s emergence as a reputable business destination, with new opportunities on the horizon for it as the next global FinTech hub, evident in the amount of companies from across the globe attending to showcase there. There is great interest from Taiwanese companies towards FinTechs, exemplified in the fact that “In 2018 alone, they invested 11.7 billion Taiwan dollars in the development of FinTech, an increase of 52% over one year”, as Tsai Ing-Wen stated.
