Building a bridge between Amsterdam and Silicon Valley: Martijn Roordink

Martijn Roordink co-founded spaces as a premium office brand. Their philosophy of an office is that it should be decidedly designed, professionally informal and highly service minded.

Spaces started in 2006, with Martijn Roordink who believed that ‘the world of working was changing and could be more fun and effective by creating an inspiring social place for people to go to work and interact’.

We’re happy to announce Martijn Roordink is another local represented speaker at our AMSxTech conference this March 2017!

Spaces is great at creating effective and beautiful work spaces — what is even more interesting is that they are building a symbolic bridge between Silicon Valley companies and Amsterdam. Companies like Uber, Facebook, Github and GoPro have offices at their spaces.

The diversity shows when you see the mix of people working in their ‘business clubs’, which are; freelancers, lawyers, designers, everyone really.

Martijn learned his craft for creating places to work at Regus, he originally worked there, and what he missed there he accomplished at Spaces. The buildings are important — only their key mission is to have pivotal locations for these building, creating a prospering international network of locations.

Spaces has a distinct style, which they export even to Melbourne, Australia

Quality of life at work

A nice location, close to home, with all the benefits and inspiring and fun people, that’s what it’s all about at Spaces.

“People have a limited amount of heartbeats, why would you not make the ultimate best of it?”

Martijn is high on the vision and mission of Spaces, what clearly resonates when you enter one of their locations. With quotes on the wall, lots of people smiling at work and interactions; it’s a good space to thrive.

What a lot of people do not know that Spaces has been acquired by the British Regus in 2014. Regus, which you probably know from their 1800 locations in 600 cities in a 100 countries, also providing temporary office spaces, but within a different brand.

Being acquired by a company you worked at, when indirectly competing, is an interesting story we would love to know more about.

Martijn will explain what it is like to start in the Netherlands, be acquired and to continue working on a strong separate brand. Get a ticket here to hear him speak and to meet him ❌❌❌.
