Jan Jongboom prevents an Internet of Shit
Confirmed speaker for AMSxTech conference 2017, not your ordinary IoT Developer. He is always on the lookout on how to connect the web with the real world. He loves doing unexpected stuff with sensors, flying drones from browsers, and breaking phones.
Basically, he wants to prevent an Internet of Shit
You’ve all seen this brilliant Twitter account, exposing incredibly stupid solutions and moments with internet connected devices and objects. You can safely say Jongboom likes to push the boundaries, but keep it super useful.
Within ARM he works on developer relations, the mbed platform, and connectivity for IoT. He is a busy bloke walking the fine line between embedded and web development.
Where does Jan come from?
Before ARM he was a core contributor to Firefox OS, and he wrote hundreds of patches to various open source projects. He’s also a Google Developer Expert for web technologies.
Jongboom has experience in the ‘average’ nerdy conferences (Yandex YAC, JSConf EU, JSConf Asia, JSConf US, VelocityConf, etc). At AMSxTech conference 2017 he will also talk about why and how Amsterdam makes such a great place for IoT development.
“Useful is boring!” — Jan Jongboom
Practicality is helpful to solve problems but can be boring. Experiments and hacks are mostly fun and important to push technology and mindsets forward. The art is to strike a balance between applied and amusing, that’s the kind of stories you can anticipate from Jan on stage and during the drinks (and dance).
With his skills, experience and knowledge, we work with him for a hands-on technological talk —expect lots of real life insights, lively anecdotes and live discussions. His blog is amazing to already get a sense of shear amount of stories he can tell.
Jongboom is part of our Futurism topic, which makes us think about how to get to science fiction. Our conference focuses on Amsterdam’s tech developments and Jan is a great addition to our line-up of speakers.
