Eating Out in NYC: Gabriel Kreuther

My daughter and I were in New York for a quick get-away from the heat and humidity that has overtaken Dallas in recent weeks. When I suggested to Erin that we checkout Gabriel Kreuther, a Michelin star restaurant for dinner, to my surprise, she agreed. I explained that we were about to embark on journey that was more about art than sustenance. Chef Gabriel came to the table to meet the beautiful eight year old expertly making her way through the 12-course tasting menu. Several other patrons stopped by the table to inquire about how Erin was able to maintain such grace for such a long time. We were ALL very impressed. She was such a trooper — after two hours and twelve courses we were BOTH exhausted, but in good spirits. Erin’s favorites? She loved the foie gras, the ocean trout, and the scallops!

The menu consisted of: Savory Scallion Kougelhopf (chives fromage blanc), Masa-Yucca Empanada (cumin, tomato powder), Passion Fruit Tostones (avocado, wood sorrel), Queso Frito (citrus marmalade), Coffee & Coconut Cocktail (mezcal, brown sugar crumble), Siberian Osetra Caviar (german butterball espuma, hazelnut oil, lovage), Foie Gras Terrine & Black Truffle Praline (muscat gelee, seven grain toast), Citrus Cured Tasmanian Ocean Trout (summer corn, chorizo, wasabi), Roasted Diver Scallops (herb crumble, tomato confit, summer vegetable nage), Crispy Sweetbreads Roasted in Duck Fat (honshimeji, pancetta, pasilla), Seared Sullivan County Foie Gras (spring onions, basil, pickled strawberries), Roasted Lamb Saddle (fennel, roasted broccolini, pickled mustard seeds), Melon “Yolk” (tahitian vanilla espuma, strawberry tapioca), Fleur Du Temps, Raspberry White Chocolate (white chocolate mousse, bergamot marmalade, raspberry sorbet), Creme Brulee Frappe (red fruit gelee, coconut dacquoise), and Chocolate, Petites Fours.
