I’m in the middle of a tumultuous self-reckoning.

I was born into a practicing Muslim family with a devout mother and relatives who used the words ‘Inshallah” and “Mashallah” with the irritating frequency that some of us employ with the word “Like”.

I hated it. One of my first feelings was deep discomfort. I hated wearing hijab to madrasa. I hated practicing the Quran…
