Her parents towered over her, staring with bewilderment at her muddy legs and dirty hands. She’d even managed to get grime under her fingernails.

Her mother, a usually even-tempered woman, turned to her father. Her arms were folded.

The little girl had no idea who was in more trouble, her or her father.
