The leading cause of death in the world is hunger. In order to create a sustainable and realistic solution to world hunger, we need to change the way we think and interact with food.

In the United States alone, around 30 to 40% of the food supply is wasted. Globally, about one-third of each years food production is wasted. A simple change in our mindset when it comes to food waste could ultimately change the lives of hundreds of millions of people going hungry every day. This could include sharing entrees at a restaurant when you know you won’t finish your own, or just taking home your leftovers and making sure you eat them. When grocery shopping, making a list of everything you need and trying your best not to stray away from that list could reduce the amount of food that ends up in the trash. Starting with these small changes could end up making a big impact.

Giving people the nourishment they need will help them grow to become productive members of society. Some may grow up to be doctors or CEO’s or advocates for the less fortunate. It would be a benefit to everyone to not have hundreds of millions of people dying of starvation everyday. Food should not be a privilege. I believe no child, man or woman deserves to go to bed hungry and that’s why this goal is so important to me.

Throughout my research on this topic, I have come up with a list of questions I want to find answers for regarding world hunger. I would like to know what happens to all the food that goes to waste? What countries suffer the most from hunger and where do they get their food supply from? What is the government doing to put an end to world hunger and what could they do better? I believe that understanding the answers to these questions and more could give me a better understanding of the global issue of world hunger and what could be done to decrease this issue in the future.
