Things about Time Zones and Area Codes that Amaze Me

- There are 24 main time zones on the planet. This makes sense, I guess.
- I once read that a town in Louisiana had the area code “666” but changed it. I can’t find any proof it’s true, though.
- Some areas use time zones not in even increments of an hour, e.g. India (UTC +5.30)
- Russia has eleven time zones!
- Area codes in the U.S. started being used in the 40’s for large cities.
- Area codes were assigned based on how long it took to dial on a rotary phone; larger cities got shorter timed codes. E.g. NYC 212, LA 213, Phila 215
H.M. — 201 is the lowest numbered area code in the US (New Jersey)
989 is the highest numbered (Michigan)
