Every day I aspire to expand my knowledge about spirituality, so I keep searching for books that would enlighten my spiritual path.
A few years ago, I came across the following quote by Josemaria Escriva:
“Don’t neglect your spiritual reading. — Reading has made many saints.”
Honestly, the craving for reading spiritual books grew day by day after soaking this thought as my hunger for acquiring knowledge increased.
However, I did not perceive saints as the one who has renounced the world after gaining spiritual knowledge, but they are the ones who have developed the power to let go of everything to quench their thirst of Almighty’s love.
I also aspired to harness that spiritual power within me by gaining complete spiritual knowledge. As a result, I read many spiritual books, but only a few of them enlightened my soul on my spiritual journey.
“Some books should be tasted, some devoured, but only a few should be chewed and digested thoroughly.” ― Francis Bacon
Here I present to you some of my favorite books explaining the true meaning of spirituality and its relevance, and why you might want to read them to ignite your spiritual powers.
The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle
We are either overwhelmed by the figments of imagination or buried under the past’s burden. But this book explains the power of the present time.
Through this book, Eckhart Tolle enlightens us about how our thoughts and emotions rule our peace of mind and happiness. Also, there are many varied topics like the source of Chi, the concept of the cycle of time, enlightened relationships, etc., which helps us understand practical spirituality.
Besides, the author’s clear writing, empathetic voice, and illustrative examples make the message of ‘living in the now’ loud and clear to experience happiness and enlightenment.
“Time isn’t precious at all, because it is an illusion. What you perceive as precious is not time but the one point that is out of time: the Now. That is precious indeed. The more you are focused on time — past and future — the more you miss the Now, the most precious thing there is.”- Eckhart Tolle
It is a must-read if you want to fructify your present time in spiritual endeavors or otherwise.
The Secret by Rhonda Bryne
We all know this book by the law of attraction thing. But, very few of us knew about this philosophy until the release of this book.
Though the knowledge about the law of attraction is much older than the book, the author has used life illustrations and experiences to simplify it.
‘The Secret’ almost has everything that one needs. It teaches us how to manifest our thoughts into reality to improve our financial conditions, health problems, solve relationship issues, and, more importantly, gain peace of mind. The author has compiled many compelling true-life experiences of people who have used this law to eradicate disease, acquire massive wealth, overcome life hurdles, and achieve almost anything impossible.
Though many films and documentaries have also been formulated based on this book, reading this book leaves a more profound impact on our minds.
“There is a truth deep down inside of you that has been waiting for you to discover it, and that truth is this: you deserve all good things life has to offer.”― Rhonda Byrne
If you believe that you deserve all the good things in life, you must give this book a try as it explains an accurate, practical method of manifesting your dreams and aspirations into a reality.
Conversations with God by Neale Donald Walsch
The history of this book is fascinating. Neale Donald Walsch would sit idle and put a pen on the paper while waiting for thoughts to arrive. If no words descended upon him, he would pack up everything for another day. This way, the whole process took him one year to write this book.
The author believes that the book is an outcome of his self-consciousness.
“You are goodness and mercy and compassion and understanding. You are peace and joy and light. You are forgiveness and patience, strength and courage, a helper in time of need, a comforter in time of sorrow, a healer in time of injury, a teacher in times of confusion. You are the deepest wisdom and the highest truth; the greatest peace and the grandest love.Choose now to know yourself as these things always.”- Neale Donald Walsch
If you are puzzled by the questions about our existence, good-evil, love-faith, and life-death, this book is for you.
Through this book, the author instills a new perspective on us about God.
There are three parts to this book.
The first part of the book deals with personal matters like romantic relationships, seeking the correct profession, dealing with powers of money, love, sex, and God, etc.
The second one deals with geopolitical matters like the government’s role, the basis of a better world, establishing a new, better world without war, and a society based on universal brotherhood.
The third and the last one deals with the concepts of an alternate reality like other realms, dimensions, and how everything fits perfectly in answering all our existential questions.
In an interview with the New York Times, Neale suggested that our world is changing very fast, and with changing times, we must empower ourselves to change our future. And writing this book was his first step in building a better tomorrow.
The Untethered Soul: The Journey Beyond Yourself by Michale A. Singer
This book tops my favorites list.
If you are intrigued by how the mind runs our lives and what we can do to remain soul consciousness, then you might enjoy this book.
“There is nothing more important to true growth than realizing that you are not the voice of the mind — you are the one who hears it.” — Michale A. Singer
Michale walks us through the relationship between thoughts and emotions, helping us find the real source of our inner energy. After that, he explains what we can do to get rid of habitual negative thoughts, emotions, and energy patterns that lower our vibrations.
This book is an amalgamation of personal growth as a spiritual being and life lessons for an ordinary being.
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
I still remember that this was the first book my parents gifted me on my seventh birthday. And I might have read it more than thirty times till now.
Through a beautiful fiction story of a shepherd boy traveling from his home in Spain to the Egyptian deserts searching for treasures beneath the Pyramids, this book explains the importance of pursuing one’s dreams by following one’s heart.
The author teaches us many life lessons like overcoming fear, using our intellectual powers to face adversity, and focusing on one’s journey without getting distracted by society's influences.
If one aspires to take their spiritual endeavors to different heights, one must learn the art of concentration, and this book helps in doing so.
“When we love, we always strive to become better than we are. When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too.” — Paulo Coelho
If you have a dream and want a motivating factor to pursue what your heart says, then The Alchemist will serve your purpose for life.
Whether you plan on starting your spiritual journey or using spirituality to seek existential answers, these books will surely evolve your consciousness as it did to me.
