Being in my late thirties, not long ago I was in a situation that made me regret skipping some life steps that could be of such value right now.

I wanted to go for a while on unemployment benefits until I find a better job with a better salary. I was faced with some unpleasant surprises, that made me regret I didn’t do the things that should have been done at the right time. I regret I didn’t become employed earlier in life. The unemployment benefits' monetary value would have been greater.

Have you ever been in a situation in which to ask yourself:

What was I doing not taking that diploma, or not taking care of my body while it was still in shape? Today I would not struggle so much to achieve the same goals. It is much harder and it can get harder as I age.

Well, I was in that situation and if you were too, you know what an awful feeling it can be. Sometimes people wish they have done something earlier in life because now they would be way ahead in their progress, or may have more life experiences that are necessary for more fruitful, wealthy, and mature personal growth.

On the other hand, if you’re one of those people who have done everything at the right time, you surely have no regrets!

Here are some of the situations that you will never regret doing at an early stage in life:

1. Becoming Employed Early

There are situations in which people cannot become employed as soon as they become adults. Maybe they are attending a university that doesn’t allow them enough free time to also have a job. Some people are not even prepared to become employed before their twenties.

Becoming employed as soon as possible after finishing high school can make you realize a lot of things early and can help you grow emotionally, mentally, and professionally.

You won’t regret doing this!

2. Creating a Passive Income

I remember always wanting to create a passive income that could help me to have a backup plan if something goes wrong with work. I never succeeded in creating passive income that is sustainable enough. Others have succeeded in creating multiple streams of passive income and this has helped them for sure in the long term.

Just think about it, if you have one or more passive income streams, you are not as dependent on a regular job, as you would be if you would not have this solution. Sometimes people fear quitting a job they hate because they don’t have immediate alternatives or a backup income source.

Creating a passive income as early as possible in life is something you won’t regret later!

3. Taking Care of Your Body

Someone at the gym once told me that, until the age of 25 the human body takes care of itself, so to speak. After, you need to support it, if you want it to stay in the best shape.

This is probably related to the fact that metabolism starts to slow down after our twenties. Of course, every human body is a bit different, but the point is, if you don’t go to the gym or practice jogging or any type of sport after 25, you are very much liable to become obese. If you start taking care of your body as early as possible in life, you will not be affected by these changes in metabolism.

The best thing about starting early is that you don’t have to put in as much effort as you may have later and you will have no regrets later!

4. Getting Licenses and Diplomas

Licenses such as driver's licenses, or diplomas such as university degrees are of the most help in life. It may be true that nowadays employers are more interested in applicants who have practical experience or knowledge, but a degree can help you get a bigger salary and offers you more chances to get hired.

In my country, there was a situation recently, in which the government has raised the minimum and medium wages based on school degrees. In this way, people with a bachelor’s degree received a lower minimum wage than those who had a graduate degree. The net salaries were affected and some people who were hired based on experience had different salaries than the ones hired based on a graduate degree, even if they worked in the same departments.

This proves that you won’t have any regrets if you take as many diplomas as you can!

5. Visiting Places You’ve Never Been Before

In the last few years, people around the world went through a lot of restrictive measures and many had regrets that they didn’t travel more. I have the regret of not traveling to foreign countries while we still had more freedom to do it without risks.

At some point in your life, if you didn’t travel enough when you had the chance, not only that it may not have the same flavor as it would before, but it may become harder because you may end up having children, building a career, and you surely will have more problems to solve in general than in your twenties.

It is best to travel as much as you can as early as possible in life and you will surely have no regrets later!

In conclusion, if you are doing all these steps early in your life, you will have a more fulfilling life and you will avoid regrets. On the other hand, what I have learned from this situation is that, even if skipping some steps in life can bring you unpleasant surprises, it is not such a tragedy overall. You are never too old to do the things you need to be happy. It just becomes harder, but with enough ambition, you can do anything!
