Watching a documentary on social media couldn’t have revealed more than we bargained for. The Social Dilemma was not just about social media, it touched on the psychology behind it and how we are driven by it.

Gone are the days when we got back home from school or work and sit around the table to spend good quality family time. With this generation, social media have been a large part of their lives. Growing up with technology would have been something to look forward to, but it has become one of the leading sources of depression and low self-esteem.

Lessons from the Social Dilemma

  1. Social media is not just a tool waiting to be used, it has its own goals and it’s own means of pursuing them. When we receive an email or push notification when friends tag us in their posts and images, it is not just to inform us, it is to keep us engaged and hooked.
  2. The internet works by building technology out of the psychology of an individual. Each time we stare at our screens, we expect something to be waiting for us.
