A few months ago, I was a little early for a training event and decided to stop and eat breakfast at a local restaurant, as breakfast is my favorite meal.
When I entered, I could tell there were only a few people in the place. Mr. O’Brient, the Manager, met me as I walked in. He greeted me with the most amazing smile, escorted me to my booth, and in just a few words, explained how happy he was that I was there and how excited he was to help me.
I mentioned to him that I didn't see any other employees, and he replied that his two servers had called in sick and that he was getting to be Manager and Server for the day.
He didn't complain at all about the servers not being there; he just brought coffee and water, took my order, while at the same time keeping up with the other few customers that were there, treating us all like we were the most important people in the world.
