Just about an hour in the morning can change the whole day ahead of you. Sounds crazy? But it’s not, and you will realize it at the end of this article just after a few minutes. Here are 9 super simple ideas to add into the list of your morning routine practices that make your whole day fresh and exciting.

01. Plan your waking time and sleeping duration before you sleep

Waking up is the very first thing we should focus on doing refreshingly. Some people get 4–5 hours of sleep and still sleepy when they wake up. Are you one from that mould? Or do you get 10–11 hours of sleep and still drowsy after waking up?

In the first instance, you may think that’s because you didn’t get enough sleep. Well then, what about the second instance? Do you still think you didn’t have enough sleep! NO. That’s more than enough as the average sleeping time for an adult is 6–8hours.

Then what’s wrong with you, and why can’t you wake up freshly? Here are the reasons and the solutions to your problem of waking up.

We don’t get one long continuous sleep. We sleep in cycles of 90 minutes. So if you can wake up at the end of a 90-minute sleeping cycle, then you can wake up freshly. It needs a great deal of effort to wake up if you set the alarm in the middle of a sleeping cycle. You’re not going to feel fresh because you corrupted a deep sleeping phase.

So you can sleep 1.5, 3, 4.5, 6, 7.5, 9 or 10.5 hours as you wish. Set the alarm by thinking about the time you’re going to sleep and the duration you want to sleep.

Here’s one more simple trick. Use something that motivates you as the tone of the alarm or to wake you up because it’s the first thing you hear at the beginning of that new day. Maybe a song you love, music or prayer.

02. Drink a glass of water (with Kasa Kasa)

What is the first thing you do after waking up? You may have different answers, and I’m afraid many of you’d answer as “Check my notifications”.

I did have a notification addiction, but not anymore. From now on change your answer to the above question as “Drink a glass of water”.
How it helps and why it’s important?

Though I used as a glass of water, it’s better if you can drink at least 650ml (3 cups) of water because it helps to re-hydrate your body after a long sleep.

Another mistake many of us do is skipping our breakfast. Drinking water as soon as you wake up helps in this matter also because it clears all the waste of our body and this makes us feel hungry.

Here’s one more little trick for this second idea as well. Prepare the glass of water at night and add some poppy seeds (Kasa Kasa seeds in my country) to it. They help you in digestion, constipation, losing weight, treating headaches and boosting skin and hair health. Try to make the best use of that glass of water.

03. Spend some time with nature

Don’t just stare at your phone or start your business right away when you wake up. That’s what most of us do for the rest of the day and why can’t we spare just a few minutes in the morning to do something else.

One of the best things is to spend some time with nature. Take a little walk in your garden. If you have none, enjoy the charming morning scenery. If you have some plants growing, make this the time to water them. Enjoy the chirping of birds, fragrance of the flowers, dew drops on the leaves and many more amidst the cold wind.

These simple things are more than enough to calm yourself down while helping you to gather all the positive feelings around you for the day ahead.

04. Having a cold bath

Having a bath in the morning cleanse not only your body but also the mind.

It’s better if you can choose a cold bath over a hot bath as the cold bath has its own benefits.

Helps to relieve stress and calm you down
Stimulates the immune response
Helps in losing weight

Though a cold bath in the cold mornings sounds terrible, give it a try. Try to continue this for about a week or so. That’ll make this a habit of your daily morning routine which won’t need an effort anymore.

05. Engage in exercises or yoga

Are you on the fence about starting a workout routine? Then take this as a motivation and start simple. How to start?

It’s vital to choose a set of exercises that apply to your desired body tone. Consider your physical fitness as well when selecting exercises. After that, it’s better if you can set a time for doing the exercises to ensure its continuity.

You can set the time in the morning, evening or even at night. That’s totally up to you. But, exercising in the morning has some unique benefits.

Boost energy for the rest of the day
Accumulate positive thoughts around you and motivate you.
Manage blood glucose and blood pressure levels.
Upgrade your sleep at night.

06. Keep your mobile away

Many of us are busy finding our mobile as soon as we wake up in the morning. You turn on the Wi-Fi and then you are on the autopilot for the next few minutes, and for some it’s hours.

The clock is ticking, and you have no idea. You’re busy with your notifications or just scrolling up and down on a news feed. You spend the next 20–30 minutes or more like that. Sounds familiar?

Then you look at the clock. OMG! You’re late for your business, and for the next few minutes, you are like a fast-moving machine.

You screwed up the freshness of that morning, and probably you miss your breakfast as a habit which is a crucial factor in a good morning routine.

Is that you? It was me a few months ago, but not anymore. Try to stop being addicted to your mobile and notifications. Why not use that time to do something else that refresh your mind?

Listen to a song or some music.
If you have pets, spend that few minutes with them because it worth a lot in improving your mood.
Listen to or read something that gives you fresh ideas and motivation, not the gossip in news feeds.
Spend some time in the green.

Try to keep your mobile or laptop away from you even for the very first minutes of the day. If it sounded exactly like you at the beginning of this topic, it would be a little bit difficult for you to overcome that habit. You only need to have some courage.

Now I don’t get any thoughts of using my phone as soon as I wake up, even it laid behind me. It’s possible because I did that. So give it a try.

07. A healthy breakfast (healthy doesn’t mean time consuming)

Don’t you have enough time to prepare your breakfast? Don’t you feel hungry in the morning? If you answered yes, you’re one of the people who skip breakfast as a habit.

But that’s not a very good habit as it drags you down to a series of problems.

Heart diseases
High blood pressure
Diabetes
Obesity

What can you do about that?

To begin with, you need to manage your time and find at least 10 minutes for your breakfast as it worth more than that. There are so many simple breakfast recipes out there packed with nutritional value.

Just spare some time and find quick recipes that suit you because having breakfast helps you to avoid above mentioned problems. Also, it boosts your energy and brainpower for the rest of the day.

08. Tidy up

Are you too lazy to clean your room and dress up nicely? Do you love to be in your pajamas the whole day when you are at home?

You may spend the days like this if you’re working from home, especially on this pandemic. But, that’s not very nice if you want to be serious about your work.

When you tidy up your bedroom and dress up nicely, that affects your mind in a way that you may not even think about.

Affect your attitudes and confidence.
Create refreshing feelings.
Boosts your energy and increase efficiency

Just give this a try, and you’ll see how much it affects your day by yourselves.

09. To-do list (even a simple task can make a big effect)

Do you prepare a to-do list for each day? If yes, good for you.

Make sure you include an achievable number of tasks in that list. That will prevent you from moving many of the tasks to the following days.

Well, preparing the list is to be done at night. If you aren’t doing that so far, set 5–10 minutes for that in your night routine. That few minutes you spend at night will make your next day well organized.

The well-known suggestion is to start your day with your most important task and continue according to the priority of the tasks left.

Here I’m suggesting to start your day with the simplest task in the to-do list. As it’s easy, it won’t take much time. Completing one of the tasks on your to-do list at the beginning of the day creates a positive impact on you.

That’s the reason for choosing a simple and easy task as the first one because it lets you complete the first task of the day successfully. It’s an easy way to motivate yourself.

I have listed 9 simple tips to add to your daily morning routine through this article. Those ideas will help you for a fresh and energetic day. Make a daily morning routine, and for that, you need to put some effort into the first few days while it becomes a habit of you.

There’s one more suggestion from me. You don’t need to do these things separately, and for sure that’ll take you more than an hour. You can do two or more things together, and that’s totally up to you to recreate all these ideas and to suit the best morning routine for you.

Have a little walk in the breeze or prepare breakfast, listening to music.
Have breakfast, listening to music or reading a book.
Do the exercises or yoga in an open area outside, feeling the gentle breeze and sunshine and listening to music.

Everyone need not be in the same mould. You can blend these ideas with your own morning routine practices as well. I love to hear your thoughts, and if there are any suggestions from your morning routines, you’d like to share with others.

If you enjoyed this article, you would find these articles interesting as well.
