a flame snuffed

Wrote these 3 on the day the eternal flame at the Amar Jawan Memorial was extinguished by a government gone completely raving bonkers.

1

one by one
they shut out
all the lights
its getting darker

one by one
they erase memories
and spew out new fantasies
the dark
their ally
it hides
what teleprompters reveal

2

some create history
these appropriate

razzle and dazzle
in light & sound shows
they hide
in the shadows they create
they finally feel secure

they understand fire
their flames are different
they burn they scorch
as they dance around
their dead conscience

3

to extinguish the eternal
takes a mind so warped
the word devious
fails

naked emperors
need their own flame
to keep warm
the cockles of their putrid hearts

to fill up that void
where conscience resides
normally

the sweet smell
of duty & rights
overpowered
by the stench
from the gutter

and this one the day after

image from the internet

merger effected
by barbarians at the gate
their job now done
flames relegated
in a corner remote
to be pulled out
for the next diversion
they will stand
their silence masked
hand across hollow chests
just around the time
the chinese inaugurate that bridge
