American Dream

What if we could unclench our fists
And offer our hands
To the people from whom
We’ve stolen these lands
What if we could unclench our fists
And reach out our hands
To the people we forced
To work on these lands
Under threat of being hanged
What if we could ask for forgiveness
And show a little kindness
So maybe we could start again as equals
Maybe then…
We could deliver on the dream
And make true the promise
If we could learn to share
And not count the cost
For what we’ll gain
Is much more than the loss
What a great country we could be
Then, I think, we could finally be free.
