Discovering The History Of Budapest- Hungary
Before visiting Budapest, I had no idea that this was one of the 25 most visited cities in Europe or that this city was the most central point in Europe. I knew very little or nothing about the Hungarian people or Budapest. All the places I visited and my experiences formed my vision of the Hungarian people and Budapest city.
This article is dedicated to all the places that I consider a must-see on a visit to Budapest, but it is also an article dedicated to the history of the Hungarian people and Budapest.
The history behind the name Budapest
Today we know the capital Budapest by this name, but the truth is that Buda and Pest are two different areas, which like their name, they were not always unified. The Chain Bridge connected the two halves of the city in 1849. However, it was not until 1873 that Budapest's name became one; Pest is the generally flat eastern portion of the city of Budapest, covering about two-thirds of Budapest is separated from Buda by the Danube River. Buda, in turn, is located in the western part and is composed mainly of hills and forests.
