Fitting Your Square Peg Into Someone’s Round Hole

They say it can’t be done — to fit a square peg into a round hole. But that is simply not the case. It is the same as trying to please everyone — it just can’t be done, but oh, it can.

If you make yourself small enough, if you don’t express your feelings, if you don’t speak your mind, if you don’t stand up for yourself or what’s right… it can be done. You just have to make yourself small enough.

Small enough that no one hears your voice. Small enough that no one notices your gifts. Small enough that no one knows you exist… it can be done. Just be smaller, be quieter, be nicer, be more humble, less boisterous, more dependent, less the way you are and more the way they want you to be.

Do whatever you want, just don’t be you.

I’ve heard these my whole life… just be someone else and you’ll be fine. Be like everyone else and you’ll fit in. Be less you and more them and everything will be all right. But it never is.

The only way to be free, to be happy, to be truly successful, to be everything you were destined to be, is to be the you you want you to be. Nothing and no one else. Not to please your parents, not to please your spouse, not to please your boss, not to please a single damned soul other than yourself.

Just be you. Be the best you, and be you radiantly, and others will see your light, and someday they will tell someone else… why can’t you be like her?

Life’s short. Eat the cake. Buy the car. Laugh until you cry. Please yourself. Be real. Always be honest. Live with integrity. Never give up. Be better everyday
