Fixing Ourselves
Written in June 2016, immediately after some family trauma, on a trip out with my daughter
We picnicked in the pouring rain
To ease the pain
And get back to being a family again
Sat under the shelter
Near the helter skelter
We opened our hearts
Spoke without fear
Drank tea together
Shed more than a tear
The only two people in the park
Watching the clouds turn angry and dark
Promising each other we’ll not do the same
Expressing our love
Feeling no shame
To admit what was wrong
Agree no one’s to blame
We picnicked in the pouring rain
To ease the pain
And get back to being a family again
