If You Are Privileged, Be Grateful

We, humans tend to look at what other people have that we don’t. Money, fame, and fortune that we always wish we have. We are making ourselves miserable thinking that we need to have all those things to be happy.

Have you seen people on the other side of the world? Have you seen people suffering everyday just to live? Have you seen the Philippines facing its battle but still managed to smile? The greatest lesson I learned this year is to be grateful. I realized that we are more privileged than we think we are.

Nov. 11, 2020. The Philippines has been hit by another typhoon. The water rose faster than people expected. There was no time to evacuate. It was a life and death situation.

They need to go to the roof of their houses. Shouting for help. They waited for rescuers to get them. The people were freezing cold. Some people survived but some people didn’t make it. They were drowned by the waves of water.

I was crying watching my beloved Filipinos suffer. They lost their homes. They lost their possessions and worse, they lost their family members.

In these times of crises, I saw how people helped one another. The hospitable traits and kindness of everyone.

I hope you realize that you are more privileged, and that is something to be grateful for.
