It came …
It came like an August guest;
uninvited and blood thirsty.
It crept up on the liberty
of our lifestyles and habits.
It clawed through homes and nations,
Unapologetic and atrocious.
It made us rest from life’s bustle.
The affluent and lowly alike
Abided by its rod.
It viciously raped mankind
and ruthlessly slaughtered;
like a butcher in the festive season …
It got the young and murdered the old,
It took the weak and slew the strong.
It gulped down man and foetus,
And swallowed murderer and saint.
It exposed the emptiness of the vanities we chase.
It reduced us to who we really are:
Mere mortals …
It donated our freedom,
To animals and the breathless.
It brought families closer and sealed hidden rivalries.
It made the old write their last testaments,
It made the young redefine their dreams.
It made our eyes bleed of tears.
As all we had were memories of how we used to be.
It fattened the pouches of some,
It leavened the power of some,
It unburdened wallets and bank accounts,
It was above riches and power…
It competed with knowledge and wisdom.
But never was it bigger than he who formed the skies;
His will was done and His glory revealed.
It pushed us to our knees,
As we bowed to hide the tears…
It reminded us of our master,
The one who formed us and gave us breath,
The one whom we had shut out.
Like prodigal kids we wept in regret,
And came back to his warm hug.
In the fullness of His mercy,
He spared us to tell the tale,
He spared us to watch and pray.

The COVID-19 crises came and changed us. We will never be the same after this pandemic
