Getting to Know You
Some of us are good at knowing ourselves. Those that do, have a strength that immediately sets boundaries, they know what they want, and what to do. Are you that someone?
Not all of us are and that’s ok because we can learn and grow to know ourselves, one moment at a time, one day at a time, and as long as it has to take.
The main problem is usually doubt, which is like being on shaky ground. It clouds us. We push, work, and force ourselves to get things done without stopping. And maybe also we don’t really want to know. We want everything to be easy. That’s because being busy and coping with day to day responsibilities take a lot of time and energy. And life is hard. But there is a moment or two when we can sit back for a bit, close our eyes, and just sit in it. That’s where we find ourselves.
Every time I’m with my grandchildren, it’s always a new awakening. Getting to know them after not seeing them for a while makes me aware of how quickly things change, or how differently they feel, and how much they have grown and not just in height or width. Also, if you watch ocean waves for a while, you see how they change constantly as life does. So it might feel like we don’t have an edge or an opportunity to seize the break or the quiet we need.
