Why does it hurt so bad?
It hurts to be human.
Why are we hurting? Because we hurt our brother, our sister, our family and deep down, we know it.
We’re feeling the pain, the desperation, the devastation, the unbearable callousness of our collective acts of betrayal,
Our hubris, denial, selfishness is sinking in. And it feels pretty bad because we were mean, we were bullies and we didn’t listen. Acknowledge our racism. This is our reckoning. We’re responsible. Sit with it.
And?
I believe in humanity. As deep as we cut each other, we have the capacity for deeply loving one another.
Act differently, think differently, recognize when you’re judging, read about the Black struggle (Amazing Grace by Jonathan Kozol) and reach out, be present for black men, black women and the black community.
Let’s be accountable to one another, move forward differently, reform, change laws, create a future together knowing we did the right thing.
