mayweather tbe deception

now throughout his career floyd mayweather jr repeated these lines on many occasions
i’m not i’m not ducking the dodger nobody you know what you know what it is i’m not talking
to nobody but i never i never duck the dodge no opponent well that’s not true and today we’re going to
go over a few fighters floyd mayweather jr ducked in his career.

now to recap what i stated in part one floyd mayweather jr was a phenomenal fighter one of the best defensively in boxing history blessed with great boxing acumen a great work ethic and in my opinion the best welterweight of his generation. however regardless of the fact that he retired undefeated regardless of the fact that he holds the record for most pay-per-view buys
in my opinion floyd mayweather jr is not
the best
ever now boxing fans especially in this
day and age can get lost in the
narratives that media outlets promoters
and boxers themselves
can lead you on to believe and floyd
played that game to a t
it takes six months to build a
pay-per-view fight
that’s what you don’t understand the
bill’s in the fight man i want to fight
miguel cotto
but guess what me go miguel cuddle is
with bob m
bob m doesn’t want to do business with
floyd mayweather that’s just a start
this tbe deception series is not about
bashing floyd mayweather jr
it’s about much needed context that in
my opinion has been left
out during floyd mayweather’s career and
even after
that’s why on ringside stories we deal
with facts
fairness and proper context in part one
of the tbe deception
you saw how floyd was rightfully
criticized for picking up a title
against a weak champion
which floyd by his own admission was
aware of
a tour guide for the guy who was who
wasn’t even known for the belt
this guy was handed the title he’s a
paper champion floyd never tested
himself
against the best fighters at the time at
140 pounds
here’s a simple question if you do not
beat the best fighters in your division
how can you claim that you’re the best
side note
in part one i just asked why floyd
mayweather jr didn’t fight miguel cotto
and cost jazoo i didn’t say he ducked
them
and let me be clear about this what is a
duck when a fighter calls you out
and or offers you a fight and you do not
respond
or have no particular reason to decline
and
still won’t fight that is a duck
honestly i don’t think floyd mayweather
was scared of fighters per se
however at times he twisted and bent the
truth or
flat out lied just to put himself in a
good stead
and yes floyd mayweather jr
docked fights after beating arturo gotti
in june of 2005
money made challenged ronald winky
wright the former undisputed light
middleweight champion
who just came off a win against felix
trinidad at 160 pounds in may of 2005.
mayweather was really serious about
challenging the man
as he bashed winky right in an interview
he did with boxingtalk.com
in july of 2005. floyd said this many
great fighters have made big jumps in
weight
the only difference with me is i’m
making the jump a lot quicker
mark my words i will be winky right a
lazy
flat-footed one-handed fighter like
winky wright could
never beat me i know this guy is
overlooking me i got nothing but love
for winky he’s my friend but this
is business i’m in it to win it and you
can mark my words
how’s this guy going to knock me out
when he hasn’t knocked out anyone in six
years
he ain’t beating me with no jab count on
that
link to the full article in the
description box below so floyd
mayweather jr seemed very confident to
come up two weight classes
and beat a former undisputed champion
legit
pound-for-pound level fighter in or
close to his prime
mayweather and wright agreed to a fight
at 154 pounds with a couple of
stipulations
weigh-ins would be the morning of the
fight rather than the day before
and wright would not be allowed to gain
more than eight pounds between weighing
in
and at the start of the contest which in
my opinion were fair stipulations
since winky wright was the naturally
bigger man wright and his team
agreed to all of these stipulations and
so floyd was about to test himself
against legit
opposition in a way a tbe level fighter
would have done
in my opinion would have because
unfortunately
the fight between floyd mayweather jr
and winky wright
fell apart mayweather who at that time
was promoted by bob arum and top ranked
promotions
was not a pay-per-view star and not the
a side
yet demanded a change of split bob arum
turned down the 50–50 offer for the
winky right
fight and by july 22nd 2005
the fight was off floyd kept his fight
date in november of 2005
but just walked away from the winky
right fight
and rather than challenge another top
level fighter at 140
147 or 154 pounds
in winky right stead floyd mayweather jr
chose to fight sean bay mitchell
who really was in the twilight of his
career you fought sean bay mitchell for
four and a half
no no i did not fight shopping i fought
shot they mitchell back in the day
that didn’t get four and a half i got
eight nine
this is part of the reason why boxing
aficionados were harsh on floyd
mayweather jr
because they all saw the natural talent
and the brilliance he displayed in the
ring
yet he was not fighting the best at the
time
let’s fast forward to 2006 after floyd
outclassed zab judah he went after the
guy who beat judah before him
carlos baldomir floyd said this about
the then wbc championship
that is a complete lie i mean do you
even know who carlos balumi
is what has he done he certainly was not
undisputed
in fact by 2006 the belts at 147
pounds were fractioned this is what the
welterweight landscape
looked like floyd won the ibf title
against zab judah but then
vacated later that year kodo was the wba
champion
the wbc strat was with carlos baldomir
and then you had the wbo wealth away
champion
entered the tijuana tornado aka antonio
margarito
who many considered the man at
welterweight
at the time i want to play you a clip in
2006
before floyd fought baldomir and so and
margaret like i said before
he you know i i grabbed fans out the
audience asked who is this guy they
didn’t even know who he was
so you know we’re not fighting the proof
to the boxing fans who who the best is
well antonio margarito wasn’t a
mainstream star
however he was the wbo welterweight
champion since march of 2002
went on to defend his title a total of
seven times before losing to paul
williams
in total margarito was wbo champ
for five years three months and 28 days
the longest reigning welterweight
champion in history only behind the
legendary
felix tito trinidad can floyd mayweather
jr say that
about any of his title reigns now
earlier what do you say exactly huh did
he try to disrespect you at all
no we’re not at all i mean he’s young
he’s young
he walked behind me he built my shoulder
and said i want to fight you for the
fight
now i don’t want to go as far as to say
floyd was scared to get in the ring with
antonio margarito
but if you want to call a spade with a
spade in this event
floyd mayweather jr looked shook
now after seeing them so sharp that does
that still want to make you
uh fighting and maybe in a different
style maybe maybe you’ll box them maybe
you won’t brawl with them what
bob m doesn’t want to do business with
floyd mayweather that’s just for start
this is the promoter that i used to be
with
so for starting you gotta learn a
business
mayweather one snow bought a margarita
i mean you mentioned margarito’s name
and you look in in mayweather’s face
and that’s the one guy he doesn’t want
to fight margarita was too big and too
strong
for mayweather bob arum was critical of
floyd after floyd left top ranked
promotions
so we got to take whatever aaron says
about floyd with a pinch of salt now
what is interesting is that aaron
offered floyd 8 million dollars for a
showdown with margarito in
august of 2006. mayweather decided to
buy himself
out of his promoter deal in order to
become a free agent
and pursue the carlos baldomir fight
that baldomir fight
did 325 000 pay-per-view buys
and floyd earned 8 million dollars so
that was a great move by floyd and his
team
from a business point of view yet a
terrible move
from a legacy point of view because
antonio margarito was a feared
long reigning welterweight champion it
would have been a bigger scalp on
floyd’s resume
thus a better claim to tbe had
mayweather fought and
beat antonio margarito as many of
floyd’s fanatics will claim he would
anyway
and the fact is that floyd mayweather jr
never fought him and in my view he
didn’t feel like he didn’t want to fight
him
and so and margaret like i said before
he you know
i grabbed fans at the audience and asked
who is this guy they didn’t even know
who he was
so you know we’re not fighting to prove
to the boxing fans who who the best
margarito earlier what do you say
exactly
huh did he try to disrespect you at all
no we’re not at all i mean
after seeing them so sharp that does
that still want to make you
i’m sorry but this clip speaks volumes
to me
why didn’t you fight margarita when you
were offered eight million dollars to
fight him
why would i fight margarita for eight
million dollars when i got 12 million i
was fighting for the title huh who was
you who were you fighting who are you
fighting
for 12 months that’s what i’m who did
you really fight for 12 million i don’t
believe that that’s a lie
they asked me to fight margarita but
then they brought part of me to the
table
once again bob adams said he give me
eight men they brought brought him into
the table
they offered me twelve now what are you
talking about
in part one i mentioned miguel cotto as
a champion at 140 pounds
well from 2006 kotto moved up to 147
pounds
and guess who he decided to risk his
undefeated record against
in 2008 the tijuana tornado
this was a brutal fight in which antonio
margarito
wrecked koto’s face some people will say
margarito was a cheater
referring to the hand wrap incident that
came to the surface
much later when trainer nazim richardson
r.i.p went to check margarito’s hand
wraps just before his fight with shane
mosley
in 2009 now whether margarito
beat koto illegally or not is a whole
other topic for another day
but i do not recall people referring to
margarito as a cheater
when he called out floyd mayweather jr
in his face
which happened in 2006 even before the
margarito corto one fight
took place and that’s just not a great
look for someone who claims he is
tbe now if you look back in boxing
history
antonio margarito took miguel cotto’s o
something floyd would have gotten a lot
of praise for
had he been the one to do it in 2005 at
140 pounds
or even in 2007 when miguel cotto was an
undefeated two division world champion
and considered the best welterweight
behind floyd mayweather jr
at the time yet floyd allowed margarito
to beat him to the punch and when floyd got a chance to shut up
all critics
to beat a feared and long reigning
champion
in antonio margarito floyd did not
fight him so fast forward to december
2007
going into the hatton fight this was the
context of floyd’s career at
welterweight
according to some boxing aficionados
floyd didn’t fight margarito
at this point hadn’t faced miguel cotto
yet who added notable wins over zab
judah and sugar shane mosley in the
process
as i said before i will give a lot of
credit to floyd for the way he beat
ricky hatton
who was undefeated at the time and a
two-weight world champion of his own
right
however and i mean no disrespect but
ricky hatton wasn’t the best
welterweight at the time
who by the way said himself that 140
pounds
was where he was at his best now i know
larry merchant was an infamous
mayweather hater
i acknowledged and addressed that in the
past already
still objectively speaking in this
interview
larry merchant was in his right to be
critical of floyd’s career at
welterweight
for not fighting the likes of miguel
cotto or antonio margarito and you know
what floyd’s response was but once i
once said before i’m not talking to my
team
i won’t let the sport of boxing retire
me i’ll retire from the sport
it took about five years before he got
in the ring with miguel cotto
and again credit where credit is due
floyd gave us a great performance
against miguel cotto beating him pretty
convincingly
but let’s be honest koto had been in
many wars at that time
and just wasn’t the same after certainly
not that late in his career
in 2012 and so the facts remain that
around the end of december 2007
floyd could have fought a fresher miguel
cotto an undefeated two-division champ
and regarded by many as the best
welterweight behind floyd mayweather jr
instead of taking up the opportunity to
shut his critics up
floyd retired from the sports between
december of 2007
and september 2009 effectively avoiding
the cultural fight at welterweight
on top of him already ducking the winky
right fight and ducking
something very truthful mayweather wants
a lot easier pickings
than margarita he doesn’t have to fight
him but
he should come clean and say i don’t
want to fight margarita
floyd was an exceptional boxer a
all-time great
and one of the greatest defensively and
technically
however when floyd mayweather jr starts
talking about being tbe
he needs to be held accountable for his
claim and when it comes to floyd’s own
words
i mean i feel i’m the best in the sport
and to be the best you got to beat the
best
floyd’s actions spoke against him
because at least that light welterweigh
and welterweight floyd mayweather jr did
not fight all commerce so floyd when you
gonna fight somebody your own size in
the top two
i mean if that’s not up to me yes it is
if you want to be great don’t you gotta
fight the best
listen boxing doesn’t work like that it
takes six months
to build a pay-per-view fight legacy
don’t pay bills
