Mental Health Monday’s
If you are one of the many that suffer from any kind of mental health issues and Monday’s are your worst day of the week, declare every Monday as “Mental Health Monday”.
Some people get the Sunday Scaries, I will admit I get them to a degree, but nothing hits me harder than opening my eyes on Monday morning. This is when everything turns real when thoughts become a reality when the things you pushed off on Friday because you could not do anymore come back to haunt you. The actual start to the week, when both your day job and your life have to coexist again.
There are those that starter their week Sunday night with prepping for the next day and the week t come. I however like to soak in as much of my time as I can and don't do that, I have tried but I still wake up in the same state of mind as if I did not spend some time of precious Sunday working to make my life more bearable during the week.
This is why I am declaring every Monday, “Mental Health Monday”, in honor of those who need to start the week off a little different.
The first thing that needs to be done is to start by blocking off some time on your calendar on Monday morning. This is your time to do what you need to get done to appropriately start the week.
I start by making a list of all the things that I need to get to do to get through the day and make it one that gives me a feeling of accomplishment. I do this on scratch paper as it's something I can just toss when I am done and get that feeling that I have completed my main goals for the day.
Next, I grab my planner and start to plan out the week, at the moment O am using something called “The Legend Planner” that was gifted to me by some great friends and old co-workers. This is where I re-enforce my current day's goals to get done, step up my top goals for my day job and then plan my personal goals that I want to accomplish this week. I also set my large main goal and a reward for myself if I get complete it.
From there I try to get in a quick win for the day, that being writing a post on Medium. I actually have an hour blocked off on my work calendar to this followed by another do not disturb hour to get dip my feet in the water of the day tackling some of the small things that plague my thoughts. Sometimes I dive into the extra hour with other things but needless to say, it is kind of a safety net first thing in the morning.
Needless to say treat the start of your week with what works for you, either jump right into chaos or use it as a build to lock in your intentions to have a great week.
Use your Monday mornings to get your mind right and fight off the anxiety gorilla that may be sitting on your chest.
Remember this is a week in your life and you get to control all that comes into it and all the energy you put back into it. I know at times you feel the days control you but that really isn’t the case, you control the days so you control the outcomes of the days.
Life can be hard at times and for some, harder than they need to be because of the perspective we place on the day as we move through them. Take your mental health Monday and start your week off in a way that will help you conquer your fears and complete your tasks and crush your goals.
We all have it in us to be great and do amazing things, don’t let anything take that away from you especially yourself.
Make every Monday your “Mental Health Monday”
