morning walk — “aankle”

stumbling in the dark
tried to get my foot
into what I realised later
was a handkerchief

next stop
the balcony
with its clothesline
kid all of a year and some, next door
called out “aankle”
or something like that
I don’t mind
I like her
she is an early riser

as for the walk
plane billowing smoke
check
moon slinking away
check
Billy Joel
check
Rafi Saheb
check

now for the state of the union address
